Home Business Opportunity 2010

Having the desire to create a home business opportunity and being in the position to actually do that are two different things. There are a few questions you should ask yourself before you quit your job and start a home business of your own. Be real with yourself before you start setting things up and building your home business opportunities.

Take the time to ask yourself a few questions before you make a decision. The first thing to ask yourself is do you think you are ready to start a home based business? Confidence will play a big part in the success of your home based business. You have to believe that the home based business is worth starting in order for it to do well.

Would others say that you are a prime candidate for self-employment? Sometimes we can be a little overconfident about our own skills. However, when it comes to whether or not you will do well with self-employment, you need to be honest with yourself. Think about how you work at your current job? Are you someone who completes tasks no matter what? Do you work just as hard at work whether or not your supervisor is in the office or not? If so, you may have what it takes to get a home based business off of the ground.

There are other questions you should ask yourself. Have you ever taken courses or seminars about starting and managing a small business? If you have not, consider doing this before you start a home based business. You will learn valuable lessons about some of the underside of having a business that you manage on your own.

Are you ready to lower your standard of living while the business gets off of the ground? Home businesses opportunity are great ventures but the majority of small business owners start off working a ton and making only a little bit of profit. You should make sure that you have some type of back up income to keep you a float while you build your home based business.

Are you ready for long hours that often will produce no immediate profit? Working long hours at a job where you are getting overtime or a steady salary is quite different form working long hours at your start up home based business. You will not necessarily see a profit from the long hours that you put in. Of course, there is a bitter sweet feeling for working long hours. At the end of the day, after the long hours, you will have a home based business that is yours.

Have you contacted a business coach or counselor about your business plan? There are so many different aspects of owning your own business. There are legal issues such as what type of business you want to have, the break even point for the home business opportunity, how a business loan impacts your credit and if you need a special license or permit for your business. Getting valuable advice about all of these things can help save you time and money.

We all make mistakes in our business lives. Being able to admit these mistakes and to apologize to our prospects and clients can make the difference in your success. I have seen how this works both with brick and mortar and online businesses. Be truthful and transparent at all times and you can turn the mistake into a learning experience. Think about the effect your mistake had on your client, what you can do to make it right, and how you would handle it differently the next time.

Sometimes your mistake can seem small, like when you send out the incorrect link to a training teleseminar you will be offering or forget to include the link to a report or video you had promised. You can make that up quickly by sending out another email, but even that is an inconvenience to those who were counting on receiving your information in a timely manner.

Other times the mistake may be much bigger, resulting in lost time and confusion that cannot be fixed so easily. When this happens, simply tell the truth and apologize for the mistake. Then, to show goodwill on your part as a business owner, offer your prospects and clients something special, like a discount on a future purchase or a download link to a report or other information that you have not shared with the public.

The act of making it right can work towards building your reputation. I am reminded of a situation in my town regarding a health food store. They offered a weekend sale to the general public, and even told the regular customers to wait until the weekend to take advantage of these special prices on several high-priced items. When the weekend rolled around, the store ran out of the most popular items within a few hours.

This was an inconvenience for everyone, but especially for the regular customers who could have made their purchases during the previous week at the regular price. This store already had a reputation for being aloof, so this was their opportunity to make it right. Instead, they refused to issue rain checks or to offer any substitutions on the items they had run out of early on Saturday morning. The customers were all left with a bad feeling about what had happened. This store went out of business less than a year later.

In an online business, you have the opportunity to rectify mistakes and situations very quickly and easily. Take a look at what is happening with your prospects and clients, and go out of your way to make them feel appreciated and special. Your business will prosper if you get this right.

Squidoo and Group Advantages

What’s big on community? Squidoo of course! All things considered Squidoo is a community. One of the ways to enlist with this community is usually to join groups or start groups yourself. You can join groups that relate to your own topics. When there is none available, you might like to commence a group on that topic yourself.

If you’re endeavoring to sell a product or service you could instigate a group on the product itself, and then sell this product. On the other hand, this won’t be as effective as starting a group on the exact same topic that this product pertains to.

For example, for those who have a product that teaches people how to write articles say, it will be better to start a group that handles article writing skills, instead of a group that is only equipped to just sell the product that teaches the art of writing.

Inviting customers and potential customers, to join that group is a smart idea. If your group deals with penning articles, then you’ll know that anybody who is on Squidoo, could be considering joining this group. Not surprisingly they will be writing some kind of copy for their lenses.

It will likely be of great benefit to them, to master some new tricks and tips, about how to write effective content. It’s going to also become a group that will share information with one another about this topic. The most crucial aspect to the group though, is it needs to be interesting indeed.

Keep in mind that interesting pages, attract a far greater volume of that vital commodity, traffic! Increased interest in your group, means more quality members. The spin-off of course, is that you will receive more traffic to your lenses.

Always feature your groups that belong on your Squidoo lenses. This will likely bring more members to your groups. Consequently these new members may list the groups that they are members of on their lens. Which in turn can bring traffic back to your lens. You simply must spend some time in the group. Nobody will appreciate it if you set up a group and vanish from it. You will have to show leadership and encourage members to participate as well. You have got to be careful though. Such groups can consume more and more time if you permit that to happen. So put in a strict time limit clause guys.

Try to allocate a time based regime to the Squidoo groups. Also try to limit this time to only fifteen minutes or maximum half an hour, on a weekly basis. However always participate regularly. It’ll gather you more fans, and folks will start to discover your name and your community efforts. Because this will devour more of your time, be mindful not to join a lot of groups. You will need to spend quality time in your groups instead of wasting a large amount skipping through other groups. Keep uppermost in your thoughts that this social media is about community and participating.

Supporting and commenting on what people pen about, and they in turn will respond to you too. This does require time, and you should keep your participation in these groups to a sensible minimum, and therefore be capable of providing valuable input yourself.

It isn’t that simple to source lenses on your topics, since you can only easily see the topic groups in very broad categories. The way to circumvent this, is to locate and check lenses that are on your topic, or closely related themes, and find out what groups these lensmasters might belong to themselves Good luck guys!

LinkedIn is a social networking site for professional and business-oriented relationships. It is a social media marketing tool that helps you discover inside connections to recommended job candidates, industry experts and business partners. As online marketers, we can harness LinkedIn’s power for SEO and give our site a boost it needs from the search engines.

The first thing we will need is searchable public profile on LinkedIn. This guide will show you how to get a LinkedIn account and how to use it to get traffic to your site both from LinkedIn and Google. LinkedIn strengthens and extends your existing network of trusted contacts.

It is highly recommended that you use the “Build Your Network” feature by LinkedIn. All it does is contact people on your email address book, letting them know you have an account with LinkedIn, letting them know how to add you or how they can connect with you through the site. Enter your email username and password for each email accounts.

LinkedIn will list all your contacts and allow you to select which ones get an invitation. Later, if you need to add more friends and colleagues to your LinkedIn, you can do so by clicking Contacts from the menu on the left side of the page. Here are other ways you can do to harness the power of LinkedIn.

Ask your staff, employees, friends or colleagues at work to join LinkedIn and put links to your site on their profile. Remember to ask them to use “Other” from the pulldown and give them the keyword to use for when linking to your sites. Then there are your LinkedIn connections.

Ask them to link to your sites also using the “Other” pulldown. What this is going to do is let Google find an array of links and associate your URL with keywords used and reward your site (and LinkedIn profile) with good ranking. Your LinkedIn profile may land business directly from the contacts you’ll make on the site.

There is no doubt that LinkedIn is a powerful social media marketing tool. Bear in mind that effective networking requires reciprocity through developing and nurturing win-win relationships. By using LinkedIn, you will also have the opportunity to help out those in your own network, by answering questions, providing relevant leads, and improve the traffic to your website at the same time.

Discussion Boards and Instant Messaging

Generally speaking in internet marketing Forums allow its members to communicate with each other via a threaded message system in which one person posts a questions or a comment and then other peoples responses to that question or comment are posted in chronological order for all members to see.

Online sites were the first community sites that came with a user friendly interface that made it easy for non-tech types to use, it started on a personal level. People who shared an interest or something in common, such as teenagers or developers or stamp collectors.

Over the years Forums have evolved to allow their members to create their own profiles that can be viewed by everyone else in the Forum, and to post videos and links to video and send each other private email using the Forum’s messaging system.

Online Marketing – Instant Messaging

With the development of ICQ and other instant messaging programs in the mid 1990s, suddenly people could communicate back and forth without the time delay associated with email. This made the internet an even more appealing communication method and changed the way many people would engage with each other forever.

The most popular social networking sites now incorporate instant messaging tools on their respective platform’s, making it easy for their members to communicate in real time. Many of these instant messaging system’s built into the platform like Facebook have even become more popular than the ones built into the users own operating system such as Windows Live Messenger.

Online Marketing – Dating sites and social networking

The marriage of the Internet’s interactive communication tools with the vast population of online users who were searching for Mr. or Mrs. Right led to the first modern social networks. Dating were the first online networking platforms that allowed their users to create profiles with photo’s that others could easily browse looking for a perspective partner. This same functionality would later be integrated into Facebook as an integral part of the social networking experience using their platform.

By offering an artificial but realistic way of replacing social situations like going to a bar to meet someone, these sites flourished and brought many people together some of them formed long terms relationships from these virtual social introductions.

It could also be said that dating sites actually made social networking attractive to a lot of individuals who would have otherwise completely ignored it. This specific form of social networking option provided a more accessible means of achieving an important social goal, finding a partner, which it has to be said made social networking relevant to a large portion of the population.

5 Tips – SEO Friendly Titles

How often do we come across websites that have the same title and descriptions on each and every page? The answer is….hardly. Although this mistake is seen all of the time by those of us who work on Search Engine Optimization (SEO) for a living, those who are searching using search engines will unlikely find your site unless you are spending tons of money on your adword campaign. If you have 5 pages in your website, and each has the same title and description, you are loosing out in 80% of market visibility. Not only is variety important to attract as many potential customers as possible, adding variety to your web page is very easy and it can make your website rise in ranks. The following are 5 tips to help you add variety to your website through effective title and description implementation.

1. First things first, Google and other search engines hate repeat information. Repeat information tells search engines that your site may be a spam site since your descriptions may not coincide with the information provided in each page. You will effectively drop in ranks quickly if you do not solve this issue immediately. Remember that dropping in ranks is a lot easier than rising in them. This not only applies to your head tags such as your title and descriptions, but also affects your content as well. Look through your site and find which pages look like mirrors of each other, which pages can be deleted, and which can have more variety added to make them unique.

2. If you are working with a template, be effective in how you add your head tags. Be sure your title and descriptions are enclosed inside of an editable region, otherwise, your title and description will not only repeat throughout your site, but you will have a tough time editing them in the future without making a change in your template code, then still having to go back through each page and making the required changes.

3. Your choice of Titles and descriptions should be complimented with keyword research which you can easily do using Google’s free keyword tool. Make sure you incorporate your keywords inside of your title and description and yes….your content too. Be sure to practice good judgment when selecting keywords to make sure you don’t pick overly-competitive keywords. Although they may work well with your adword campaign, very competitive keywords should be avoided for organic results. Otherwise, ranking on the first few pages of a search engine result will be close to impossible.

4. Target a different search terms for each page. People don’t always land on your home page. This means you should consider each page in your website as a landing page and provide content accordingly. You want to give them a short overall idea of what your company is about, providing a link to your home page in case they want to read more about it, but focus the bulk of your content to the search at hand. You want to your visitor’s search relevant. If they are searching for “liposuction medical procedures,” they want to read about “liposuction medical procedures.” Adding content that they can find in other places of your site may confuse them and they may loose interest.

5. Don’t repeat your company name on your titles unless your company name utilizes searchable key terms. Your titles are amongst the most important tool used by search engines to find your site, so do not fill them with needless information. Rather choose brief statements that have your keywords incorporated, and that have an enticing marketing message that will make a reader want to click on your site. Unless you are a big, and highly recognized company, chances are that most searchers will not be searching for your company name.

Better Luck in Searching With Web 2.0?

I hate searching online for the something that is very general (i.e. blog) especially when Google doesn’t know me from a bar of soap. Or what I meant or want about blogs. In fact, it could be any search engine (even the Bing, Yahoo or Ciol) as when it comes to searching and trawling a general word is construed in numerous ways. A typical search for ‘blog’ ends with 2,590,000,000 options in 0.11 seconds on Goolge. Blog or blogs as we know it could range across zillion topics and purposes. A search engine would have no clue as who I am, or am I just naive to type ‘blog’ and hope something meaningful comes out.

I was thinking about it and figured maybe Web 2.0 can help to reduce this information overload and refine this process. To this, I suggest using Web 2.0 application to help our searches. I suppose we could highlight our preferred SNS or Web 2.0 application to be tied up with the favourite search engine. Now, my digital footprints include Facebook, Twitter, Plurk, Second Life, Exit Reality, Reddit, Ning, Skype and few more including a blog account.

Providing a context assists search engines to support the search and thus refining this process. This ultimately cuts the millions of pages that you do not need or is irrelevant in your decision making process. To test my theory instead of only ‘blog’, I typed my username ‘dr_at_work’ and ‘blog’. This instantly gave me 30 options in 0.18 seconds. Can you compare the results? It has reduced the search by 99.9% to a mere 0.1% possibility. This is a great achievement by any standards to reduce the search cost, effort and time from 2,590,000,000 previously.

Hope this could be realised at some time and it will be good when that happens. Not only users around the world will now have cut through the glut of pages saving time, money and effort but also marketing could be now more targeted and less annoying. Venting my frustrations from experience, I can say that nothing annoys me more than untargeted banner ads when I am accessing some free content. Understandably, free content providers to rely on advertising for their revenue based on their traffic. However, annoying banner ads and turn off users who then drop the volume of traffic thus leaving the advertisers to end their contract. It’s a cycle but this idea could help.

This idea could also be furthered by having the option to reflect recency – if you want to search things related to your past you can limit the search engine to use only certain parts (using a date/time stamp) of your web 2.0 applications to search. For example, if you want to find your former teacher from primary school. You can do the search linking your Facebook or Ning for instance. The search will then incorporate all your friends who are linked to the same affiliation (your primary school) and thus giving you a better insight rather than you alone as your social network will help similar to crowd sourcing. This stands to yield a better search result than just searching.

Now, this idea gives a framework which can be expanded in numerous ways which I think has a lot of value.

Is SEO Manipulating Search Results?

After SEO techniques have been applied to a website, the site should show up higher in search rankings, but are the changes required to cause the change really manipulating the search engine?

It’s fairly obvious that there is a group of SEO companies that employ less than honest methods to get their sites to the top of Google. They do everything from blog spam to hiding text so the site ranks higher. These techniques are not only dishonest, they’re also risky. Search bots are getting smarter, and once these techniques are discovered, your site may end up being blacklisted and not showing up in search results at all.

There is another breed of SEO companies who refuse to use shady methods to get sites to rank at the top. The main focus of these SEO companies is communicating to Google what the site is about. Basically, they make sure the on-site content and off-site content all tells Google how their site is relevant. Companies that provide this service are not an adversary to Google. They are actually a benefit to Google’s goal of serving the most relevant content for a search term.

Many of the tests that you would use to determine relevance and credibility in a book or other content are the same as the factors Google uses to rank a site higher. Your title, bolded text, and repeated phrases all tell Google what your page is about. To see how credible your content is, Google checks for other related authority websites linking to your website.

Even in the world of paid advertising on Google, having more money dedicated to a campaign does not always mean that your site will rank higher. This is further proof that relevant content has an advantage over other factors, even at the expense of decreasing the amount of padding in Google’s pockets.

In a perfect world, only the “good” websites would be the winners in the search engine game. There are still some SEO companies that misuse SEO by using shifty methods to get their sites to the top. As search engines improve, we should see Google ranking sites that use good SEO higher, and those SEO companies will be providing an honest service for both their customers and for Google.

In today’s world of virtual reality, you can build an entire social life on the Internet. You can network for your business, find employment, and even meet a potential marriage partner through the numerous dating sites that exist in cyberspace. The only problem is that many people forget that the virtual person they have been chatting to is actually a real human being, and a total stranger at that.

The other person can spin you a whole story and you won’t know unless you ever actually meet. For this reason, many people have been defrauded, raped, and murdered by people they have “met” on line. Several years ago, for example, a female Arab terrorist aged 30 lured a 16-year-old Israeli boy to his death by pretending to be an American teenager called Sally. What started out as an innocent chat became a tryst and sadly ended up with the young man’s abduction and shooting.

If you are going to meet an Internet “friend” for the first time, there are certain precautions that you must take. For a start, don’t go without a cell phone and don’t agree to meet anywhere secluded from public view. Meet at a busy restaurant in the middle of the day. It’s even better to bring someone else with you for this first encounter. Don’t give your home address or phone number until you are sure that this person is trustworthy.

If the other person gets angry when you make these suggestions or tries to wriggle out of them, chances are that there is something suspicious going on. And even if you lose an Internet “friend” as the result of your caution, that is better than losing your life.
