Read articles and self administer your SEM strategies, be your own expert!

As part of the Search Engine Marketing strategies several strategies are employed such as natural search engine optimization and other optimization services that involve strategic placement of keywords and keyword phrases in your web content and meta tags. Building link popularity is also generally a part of the natural search engine optimization process.

In addition to this, ppc(pay per click advertising) will also facilitate as a search engine marketing service. Paid inclusion programs may include getting paid listings in directories, portals, newsletters, ezines, or other online, industry-based publications that will direct targeted traffic to your website and increase your link popularity.

You also have an option of listing out your site in the free Open directory project such as dmoz.com. Dmoz provides content feeds to all the major search engines like google, yahoo, msn and others on a regular basis. It also provides a link to your site from an informative hub which Google holds itself important.

You can start off with a descriptive title for each page of 5 to 8 words. And remove as many “filler” words from the title, such as “the,” “and,” etc. Plan to use some descriptive keywords along with your business name on your home page. Words people are most likely to search on put first in the title (called “keyword prominence”).

Exchange Links With Others: Figure out sites with similar content to yours. Get in touch with the site’s webmaster (use their name). Request politely for a reciprocal link, then create “Links” section on your site and put the links there. Not everyone will respond, but it is worth your effort as search engines can rank sites based on how many other sites link to it!

Develop several web pages on your site, each of which is focused on a different keyword or key phrase. For example, instead of listing all your services on a single webpage, try developing a separate webpage for each. These web pages will rank higher for their keywords since they contain targeted rather than general content.

If you are in any way involved in Internet marketing, you probably realize exactly how busy of a lifestyle it can be. Owning your own Internet business can be one of the most rewarding things that you can possibly do but unfortunately, it can also spread you so thin that success is always out of your reach. In order for you to truly be successful with your Internet business, you need to hire out some of the work that needs to be done on a daily basis. One of these is search engine optimization, something that no Internet business should be without. If you are busy with your Internet business, and most of us are, looking for a good search engine marketing firm can do wonders for us.

The first thing that you should look for in any good search engine marketing firm is reliability. One of the main problems that the Internet has given to us is that people are able to easily make promises but following through on them is often a difficult thing. Make sure that the search engine marketing firm that you choose is going to be able to follow through on all of its promises and to truly help you with your efforts. After all, putting your business into the hands of a marketing firm that is not going to do what is necessary to make it thrive is like throwing your business away.

One of the main things that any search engine marketing firm is going to do is to help you with your search engine optimization. This is actually a process that takes in several steps and you may need to get involved in it to a certain extent. Although the marketing firm will certainly be able to take care of the majority of it, you may be asked exactly what kind of traffic you’re looking for. They will then use this knowledge in order to choose the keywords and keyword phrases that they will specifically target within the search engines in order to send you free traffic. If they are able to choose the keywords based on the information that you give them, you should find that the traffic that you get is very targeted and pays off well.

Another thing that a search engine marketing firm can do for you is to help you with any paid search engine rankings that you are trying to achieve. Free search engine traffic is always going to be something that we strive to get on a regular basis but at times, they can pay off quite nicely if we do a little bit of paid advertising as well. Because pay per click search engine marketing is based on keywords, much the same as free search engine optimization, a good search engine marketing firm will be able to walk you through this process. Not only that, they will be able to help you set it up in such a way that your payout will be at a minimum and your profit will be a maximum.

Search engine is the buzz word for every online business venture nowadays. No business can operate in vacuum but it is the right kind of search engine marketing which can help it to attain stable success. However, there is a very fine line of difference between conducting the search engine marketing in the right manner and using it inappropriately.

While trying hand at search engine marketing, it is always better to consult some of the professionals in this field or take help of search engine marketing tips. One of the best methods to increase traffic to one’s website is that an individual is to resort to internal links. Internal linking is a method to increase one’s popularity via providing cross links to all the important pages and websites within each site. Internal linking is especially useful if an individual is looking forward to increase the page ranking of their website.

Another method is to create a cluster of several small sites, all of which consist only of few web pages. Care should be taken that all of these sites are stuffed with relevant keywords and do not contain any spam in any form. Apart from this, an individual can also cross link all these small sites together, thus, connecting it with the main site ultimately.

However, it is not possible for a webmaster to control all the available websites on the net which are related to the keyword. In such a situation, an individual can choose to ask the related sites to provide a link for his website and vice versa. This can easily be done with the help of exchange links.

Yet another useful search engine marketing tips includes adding fresh content to the website. It is extremely necessary to keep updating the website on regular basis if an individual wants to continually increase their page rankings.

There is a number of search engine optimization software available in the market nowadays which can help an individual to optimize their website in the best possible manner.

One of the most underused yet useful search engine marketing strategies is to make use of articles as a search engine strategy. It is common knowledge that the content is king in promotion of a website. Thus adding up well written articles to the content of the website is only going to add to the promotion of the site.

Pay per click is another method which helps an individual to earn online revenue as well as increasing the page ranking for the website. All that it requires the web master to do is to place certain advertisements or links for related websites, products/services on the site. Every time a visitor clicks on these advertisements or links, the webmaster will get paid.

Search engine marketing can make or break the success rate of the website. It is the responsibility of the webmaster to carefully go for only those search engine marketing tips which will help to boost the promotion of their website.

Search Engine Optimization (SEO)
What is SEO Optimiation?

SEO is the process of improving web pages so they rank high in search engines for a specific keyword phrase. SEO is divided in two categories: on-page optimization and off-page optimization. On-page optimization it refers to every method you use that change the page code; off-page optimization equals link popularity (more on this later)

Choosing the right keywords

The center of optimization is the keyword phrase(s) for which you want a high ranking in search engines result pages (SERP’s). When you choose you keyword phrase you must take in consideration primarily your market (they must reflect what you sell) , the number of searches for it and the competition for that particularly keyword phrase.

On-page SEO

Search engines are constantly improving their algorithm so they can provide more relevant results. A relevant site is one that provides quality content for its readers so after you have chosen your keyword phrases build the content of your pages around those keywords.

On page SEO means the code page optimization so, in this phase, you should pay special attention to the following:

1. Title Tag

The title tag is one of the most important factors in achieving high rankings. A title tag is essentially an HTML code that creates the words that appear in the top bar of your Web browser. Usually, the Title Tag is the first element in the <Head> area of your site, followed by the Meta Description and the Meta Keywords Tags. These are the general rules you should follow when optimizing your title tag:

?? Use in your title maximum 3 keyword phrases and 100 characters

?? If possible , don’t use stop words like “a, and, or”

?? Avoid spam: don’t repeat the same keyword in your title more than twice; it’s considered spam. Also, some engines penalize for using all CAPS.

2. Meta Description tag

The META description tag describes your site’s content, giving search engines’ spiders an accurate summary filled with multiple keywords. The META description tag should contain multiple keywords organized in a logical sentence.

?? Place the keywords phrase at the beginning of your description to achieve the best possible ranking

?? Many SE’s use this to describe your site so make sure you not only repeat each of your keyword phrases (max 3) at least once but make this a true representation of the page that the visitor will be viewing, and try to keep it under 255 chars

3. The Meta Keywords Tag

The meta keywords tag allows you to provide additional text for crawler-based search engines to index along with your body copy. How does this help you? Well, for most major crawlers, it doesn’t. That’s because most crawlers now ignore the tag. The meta keywords tag is sometimes useful as a way to reinforce the terms you think a page is important for on the few crawlers that support it.

4. Body text

This is what your surfers will actually see when coming to your site. There are many issues to consider when placing keywords in the text of your pages. Most search engines index the full text of each page, so it’s vital to place keywords throughout your text. However, each search engine uses different ranking algorithms.

These are general rules that everyone should follow:

1. Make sure your main page have your main keywords. It has a higher chance of being indexed than your other pages, and it will be the only page indexed by some engines. Some engines rank a page high if it has at least 100 words, so make that your minimum. Directories include pages based on the quality of their content, so make sure your pages aren’t simply lists of keywords.

2. The H1, H2…H6 tags are given special relevancy weight, and you should plan to integrate your keywords into your heading. You don’t have to go extreme, just use one H1 for your most important keyword and two H2′s – one for each of your secondary keyword phrases.

3. Bolding and italicizing your keywords at least once doesn’t hurt and actually gives you a very small boost (recommended, but don’t go bolding every keyword on the page)

4. When creating your content pages, keep the following four concepts in mind: Keyword prominence, proximity, density and frequency.

5. Keyword prominence - the best place to place keywords in the text is at the top of each page, preferably the main page. The closer your keywords are to the start of the page or the start of a sentence, the better. This concept is known as “keyword prominence.” You’ll frequently see it used to describe search engines’ algorithms. Some engines also say the bottom of the page should contain keywords as well. Here is an example how search engines see your page. You have a page with the following links at top:

Home Services Contact

and this heading :

OUR DATING COMPANY IS OFERING THE BEST RATED DATING SERVICES

Now, you think you did a best job with the keyword “dating “at the top of your page. A search engine, however, sees your page this way:

Home Services Contact OUR DATING COMPANY IS OFERING THE BEST RATED DATING SERVICES Now your keyword placement doesn’t look as good as it did before. Try to place keyword-rich text at the very top of your page. If you are using images at the top of your page, make sure to include ALT tags, which are basically images’ descriptions. Always add ALT tags to your images to make sure search engines recognize all the content on your site. ALT tags filled with keywords can also be used to boost your keyword frequency and help you achieve better rankings.

6. Keyword Proximity - some engines, such as Google, use the concept of “keyword proximity” as part of their ranking formulas. As suggested by the name, “keyword proximity” means the how close keywords are to each other. Put your keywords as close together as possible and make sure your sentences are clear.

Here’s an example:

?? We have been selling weight loss products for over 3 years.

?? We have been selling products for weight loss for over 3 years.

In this case if someone should look for “weight loss products”, the first sentence will rank higher because its keywords are closer to each other.

7. Keyword Frequency - is a measure of the number of times keywords occur within a page’s text. It’s tied to the concept of keyword density. Search engines want to see more than one repetition of a keyword in your text to make sure it’s not an isolated case. The recommended repetition is 3-7 times.

8. Keyword Density - the final point on visible text is keyword density. Simply stated, keyword density is the number of occurrences of a keyword divided by the total word count. For this, I try to keep my initial density to between 1-7%. However, this number may have to change depending on the level of competition. Don’t worry if your initial density is lower than that of your competitors as you will learn later in this article that there are many ways to affect your keyword density other than placing your keywords in your visible text.

9. Anchors and Links - anchor text is that portion of a hyperlink that is viewed by a user on a webpage (The Clickable text). The keywords in anchor text enhance the relevance of the target page pertaining to the keywords used. While the relevance of the page containing the anchor text is also enhanced to some degree (because of relevant keywords appearing on that page), the real gainer is the target page URL.

Use this knowledge to build the relevance of each page of your site, through optimized anchor text containing important keywords, relevant to the theme of such pages, from other pages of your site. The inclusion of important keywords in the anchor text can make a big difference in the final ranking of your site pages.

All search engines that matter, give significant weight to the anchor text on your pages.

10. Frames , Java scripts, Flash

About frames: DON’T USE THEM; they are not spiderable from the search engines. Regarding Java scripts and Flash do not use them excessively. The reason for this is that spiders cannot read JavaScript (or Flash) and thus any link or text created by such JavaScript will not be counted in your indexing and will produce a lost opportunity.

11. Navigation

The navigation structure of your site is important because it is through your navigation that the search engine spiders are able to access all of your web site’s content. For sites with a small number of pages you should have every page of your site linked to every other page of your site. This can be done by having a left/right side menu or by putting a link to every other page on the bottom of your page. For sites with many pages it is advisable to include in directories the pages that are content related. For example, if you sell 10 different types of shoes and you also sell food and clothes you’re probably not going to link the sport shoes page and the leather shoes page from the food page-but rather from the shoes page itself.

Off-page SEO (Link popularity)

Link popularity is the number of relevant quality inbound links pointing to your website. Most major search engines use link popularity as part of their algorithm which helps to determine the relevance of your website. If you don’t have inbound links, you won’t rank well for competitive keywords.

Ways to build link popularity

Link exchange

There are some very important aspects you should consider when exchanging links. The right way to exchange links is by finding quality, relevant sites with which to exchange links. These are the links that search engines care about. Convincing webmasters to exchange links with you isn’t easy, this is a time consuming process.

This is how it works: You search for sites that are in the same general topic area as yours (but not sites that compete directly). After you find a list of suitable link exchange partners, you place a link to their site on your site. Then you email the webmasters of the other sites and ask for a link exchange. Do not send generic copies of the same email to each webmaster however. Write a personalized email to the webmaster explaining what you liked about the site (be specific) and why you think a link exchange would benefit both parties.

Be sure to address the webmaster by name if at all possible. Also, be sure to give him your link exchange information. This should include the title of your site, a short description, and the URL that you want his site to link to (this doesn’t have to be the home page). And be sure to include the URL of the page that already has his reciprocal link on it.

Be prepared for rejection for various reasons, this is normal so don’t be discouraged you will also receive email accepting your proposal. Verify that your reciprocal link is in fact on their sites and then send a “thank you” email. Here are some keyword phrases (KW) you can type in Google for finding related sites:

“Add a link” + “your keyword” “Add a site” + “your keyword” “Add URL” + “your keyword” “Add an URL” + “your keyword” “Submit a link” + “your keyword” “Submit a site” + “your keyword(s)” “Submit URL” + “your keyword(s)” “Submit an URL” + “your keyword(s)” “Suggest a link” + “your keyword” “Suggest a site” + “your keywords” “Suggest URL” + “your keyword(s)” “Suggest an URL” + “your keyword” “your keywords” + “directory” “your keywords” + “directories” keyword reciprocal + directory keyword exchange + directory keyword add site + directory keyword resources + directory keyword links + directory

(E.g)

“Add a link” + “Seo Bangalore

“Add a link” + “Web design Bangalore

Building inbound links through reciprocal link exchanges is very powerful website promotional tool. If done correctly, increasing your linkage will:

?? increase your traffic significantly

?? improve your visibility in the search engines by raising your link popularity

?? provide an added resource to your website

?? save you a lot of advertising money

You can use Arelis or Optilink software to manage your link exchange campaign.

Allow other people to publish your e-zine on their web site.

Include your web site’s ad and link in each issue you publish. This may also help you increase the number of people that subscribe to your e-zine.

Create a directory of web sites on a specific topic.

Give people the option of adding the directory to their web site by linking to it. Put your business ad at the top of the directory’s home page

Offer a free e-book to your web site visitors.

The ebook should be related to your target audience. Allow them to give the e-book to their own web site visitors by linking directly to your web site.

Exchange content with other web sites.

You could trade articles, top ten lists, etc. Both parties could include a resource box at the end of the content.

Join or create a web ring.

A web ring is a group of web sites on a similar subject agreeing to link together. To find a web ring to join type keywords “web rings” into your search engine of choice.

Directory Submission

Directories are different from standard search engines in that a search engine will query a database of indexed websites before it produces results and a directory is a database of websites that have been arranged by subject.

Search engines put weight on the links coming from directories which is why is so important that you know how to submit you site. Remember, that your site must be optimized before submitting and not in different construction phases; otherwise it will be rejected from submission. For a correct submission select the most appropriate category related to the subject matter of the site and then submit, suggesting a title, description and any other information the directory may require. Also make sure you read their submission guidelines.

To Kno

Engine Optimization (SEO) can be the difference between a small, barely profitable or visible website and a traffic magnet website. There are a lot of ways, both good and bad, to influence the search engines. Some search engines react to certain strategies better than others. Some even have conflicting strategies that they react to. To document all of these things would require a significant number of pages and research that goes beyond the scope of this article.

However, there are a number of things that can be documented that will work for most if not all search engines. And let’s face it; there are really only 3 that make a difference between a successful and an unsuccessful SEO strategy. They are the big three: Google, Yahoo and MSN. These three search engines in any given month are responsible for over 90% of all internet searches.

So, what is this article about? It’s about what you can do as a website owner that will influence the search engines using commonly accepted practices of linking to other websites (outbound) and getting website links (inbound) back to you. There are basically 4 strategies that a website owner usually will employ to increase their website value in the eyes of the search engine.

They are reciprocal linking, one-way linking, multi-site linking and directory linking. A website owner should not think that using just a single strategy is the right answer – sure it will help your SEO but it won’t be the Best answer. The Best answer is to employ all 4 techniques and to do it naturally.

Each of the four linking strategies has specific descriptions that can be summed up as:

1. <u>Reciprocal Linking</u>: Site A links to Site B, Site B links back to Site A

2. <u>One-Way Linking</u>: Site B links to Site A

3. <u>Multi-Site Linking</u>: Site A links to Site B, Site B links to Site C, Site C links to Site D, and Site D links back to Site A. Could be 3..N number of sites involved.

4. <u>Directory Linking</u>: Site Directory A links to Site A

That seems simple enough but it takes time and effort to perform all 4 strategies and most website owners aren’t willing to spend the time or don’t have the time to spend on it. As a website owner, SEO needs to be one of the highest priority tasks that you need to address, just after Order Processing and Fulfillment and Customer Service. Without free traffic from the search engines, other traffic generation strategies that usually require payment must be engaged.

Now doing the 4 strategies above is great, but it gets even harder because you have to do it in a way that doesn’t trigger the search engines to enforce a penalty upon your website. No one except the search engine engineers know all of the exact penalties but we have some good theories for some of them.

The first is the rate at which links are created. There is a certain threshold for creating links that is too fast. It’s possible that the threshold is a sliding scale and is related to the age of the website according to the engine. For example, a young low-traffic website should not normally be getting 1000 links a month whereas an older website that gets a lot of traffic could be OK to get 1000 links a month. As you progress in your linking strategies make sure you keep this in mind, especially if you are thinking about buying links.

The second is that having a link to every site that links to you will likely reduce the value of the links. In other words, if all you ever get is Reciprocal Linking, you will likely move up the SERP’s (Search Engine Results Page’s) but you won’t reach your sites full potential. Having a mixture of all 4 strategies will appear more natural to the engines.

The third is having all inbound links to your site on “linking” pages will make those links less valuable than having a natural link on a contextually relative page for a percentage of the inbound links. The higher you can drive this context percentage, the better your website will rank. These types of links are often some of the most difficult links to generate an exchange for because it requires more time and effort for both website owners.

The fourth is to have links inbound from all different ranking sites. If all you have linking to you is page rank 6 and 7 sites then you are likely to be sending the message that you purchased your links and that is not natural to the engines. Some would argue that purchasing links for driving traffic is just fine and it is. However, you should not expect the search engines to give those inbound links very much weight when calculating your SERP positions. It is significantly more natural for you to have a large number of rank 1 and 2 inbound links and a decreasing number of inbound links as you move up the page rank scale (0 – 10).

The fifth is to have the text of you inbound links varied. It isn’t natural to have every website that links to you to have the same text on the link description. The natural tendency would be to have a certain percent be the sites name, but after that it should be a wide variety of description. Your link text description is a key factor for how your site/page will rank, so make sure that you keep that in mind as you specify your preferred link text description on your website.

Finally, it would be best for a good percentage of your inbound links to appear within the text of a page that appears natural for the reader of that site. And for those links to not all point back to the home page of your website. It’s most natural for a good high quality link to appear in the text of a page and have it point internally within your site.

So, when you begin or continue your SEO activities keep all of these things in mind and don’t be impatient. Impatience could incur penalties or worse. Your website could end up in the “sandbox”. It is rumored and becoming more concrete that Google supposedly uses a sandbox that questionable sites are put in until they have aged to a point that Google no longer feels that they are being manipulated. Many of the search engines use similar protection schemes to eliminate spam sites and manipulation sites to keep their SERP’s from being cluttered.

1. Create approximately 50 quality articles in your niche.

Put a resource box below your articles with a 3 to 4 line ad of your product and a link to your website.

2. Post these articles on your site and submit your pages to top search engines like Google, Yahoo & MSN.

3. Now create a mini-ebook using these 50 articles.

4. Provide this quality ebook to your subscribers for free once they subscribe to your ezine.

5. Give them free resell and distribution rights to your ebook and allow them to pass it on to their friends or relatives.

6. Give them permission to post your articles on their site or publish it in their ezines or newsletters.

Tell them to keep your resource box intact.

Using this simple 6-step system you will start receiving quality traffic from…

1. Search Engines.
2. Your mini-ebook.
3. Other websites that post your article.
4. Ezines and newsletters that publish your articles.

This system will get you some few visitors initially.

But once these articles spread like wildfire you will have…

1. Hundreds if not thousands of incoming links to your site.

2. High search engine rankings.

3. Instant surges of free, lifetime, permanent, viral & lazer-targeted traffic to your site, that will not stop even if you want.

So make sure you start pumping up this system today to enjoy complete ‘traffic-freedom’ in future.

Ranking high in Google’s search results can have a phenomenal impact on the success of your business.

You can either engage the expertise of a Search Engine Optimisation company, or if you have the time, there are some changes you can make to your website yourself.

Step 1: Keyword Research

What keywords do you think your customers would type in to search for your products or services? A keyword can be one word (e.g. “optimisation”), but multiple keywords or keyword phrases are usually preferred, because they are more specific and more likely to be what your customers are looking for (eg. “ Search Engine Optimisation Australia”).

Write down as many as you can think of. Brainstorm with your team. Think of alternative words. Consider geographical phrases if they are important to your customer (e.g. “house cleaning Hornsby”). Also, get some ideas from your competitors’ websites. Try to make a list of 20-30 keyword phrases.

Choose the two keyword phrases you think would be searched for the most. But also remember, the more competition there is for a keyword, the harder it is to achieve top rankings. If you want to rank high in Google for the keyword “insurance”, you have a very long journey ahead. So try your best to select two keyword phrases that are the most relevant to you business but that are not vague nor competitive. It’s a good idea to have 2 or 3 words in each phrase (e.g. “wedding catering services”)

Once you’ve selected your two best keyword phrases the next step shows you how to make some improvements to your home page.

Step 2: Web Copy

Web copy refers to all the words or text on your website. Because content is king in the world of search engines, your keyword phrases need to be placed strategically on your webpage to convince Google that your content is highly relevant to those keywords. The more prominent they are, the better. (Keep in mind that as important as search engines are, customers come first, so make sure your copy also reads well.)

Here’s how you can increase each keyword’s prominence:

• Place your keywords in headings, preferably at the beginning of the heading;

• Include keywords towards the top of the page;

• Bold or italicise keywords where appropriate;

• Instead of having a link to another page that says “Click here to read more “, reword it to include your keywords, e.g. “Read more about our seo copywriting Services“.

An important tip is to also include these keywords in your HTML “title tag”. Use your content management system to make these changes yourself, or perhaps ask your web developer to do it if you’re unsure how.

Once you have fine-tuned your home page, consider adding new content, such as detailed descriptions of what you offer, FAQs and informative articles about your products and services. (If you don’t want to write these yourself, they can be located for free on the internet – do a search for “articles directory”).

It’s also good to bear in mind that search engines can only read text, not pictures. Often web developers embed words in images to look better for website visitors or use Flash for animation, but this is a major impediment to search engines.

Step 3: Linking

Each link from another website to your website (not from your website) is considered by search engines as a vote of popularity for your business and will improve your rankings.

But it is the quality, not quantity, of the links that is crucial. The other websites should be relevant to your industry, and preferably highly regarded themselves. Ten quality links count far more than 500 links from arbitrary websites. In the same way your personal business network can have a significant impact on the success of your business, so too the online network you build on the internet.

Brainstorm all the relevant websites that could link to you, such as non-competing companies, and industry bodies and organisations. Write a friendly email to each describing the benefit their visitors would get in knowing about your business, and request them to create a link to your website. Most people will not respond first time round, so a follow-up phone call is usually required.

How do I monitor my results?

Monitor your rankings in Google over the next few months by typing your chosen keywords into the search box, and recording your ranking. Also look at your hosting reports to understand what search terms your visitors are using to find your website.

The above process can be also be repeated for each page of your website. Remember to keep updating your content, and continually increase the number of links to your website.

As you see your rankings climb you should see a corresponding increase in web traffic and a substantial increase in sales enquiries. Be sure to record the source of your customer enquiries, so you can measure the success of your marketing efforts.

Pay per click or search engine optimization, which one should you use? Many view PPC marketing as a colossal waste of money while others disdain search engine optimization. In reality, the two marketing strategies form a perfect marriage.

Pay-Per-Click – PPC

PPC marketing is a love it or hate platform. For the “love it” crowd, PPC marketing is a way to get instant exposure and feedback on site designs. In a matter of minutes, you can start receiving traffic and adjusting your site to convert the traffic at the best rate possible. For those in the “hate it” crowd, bids are too high and one never knows how many of the clicks are fake and worthless.

Search Engine Optimization – SEO

As with PPC, seo marketing has its proponents and detractors. Those who love it look at the free traffic and glorious profitability of a site that converts the traffic at a decent rate. Detractors view seo as an unnecessary waste of time since it can take a year or more to get high rankings, particularly on Google. Detractors also argue that high listings are subject to changes in the search engine ranking process, which means you can lose your rankings.

So, who is right? In truth, both sides make accurate arguments. PPC is expensive and click fraud is a monstrous problem. Seo produces free traffic, but it takes along time to get to the top and rankings are subject to the whims of search engine ranking changes. The truth, of course, is both marketing platforms should be used whenever possible.

Marketing Marriage

Every site is unique, but most should combine PPC and seo marketing as part of an overall internet marketing strategy. When starting out, the PPC campaign is critical for getting immediate traffic and tweaking the site to maximize conversions. At the same time, a seo campaign should be undertaken. As the site rises in search results, the PPC campaign should be phased out for the relevant high listings.

PPC and seo marketing are not mutually exclusive. When married together as part of an overall marketing strategy, both platforms will deliver the goods.
Popular Viral Marketing Techniques

Viral Marketing is all about giving away your own free product or service along with your ad copy (contact information, link, email, etc.). In turn, recipients of your free product are allowed to pass it along to their own clients, prospects, visitors and others as a freebie. This is a quick way to multiple your marketing at no extra expense and without extra effort on your part.

Here are some popular viral marketing techniques to follow:

1. EBooks – Share your no cost eBook with your website visitors. Include a nice full-color ad for your most popular product line with links to your website and email. Tell recipients to share copies of the eBook with their own site visitors and other contacts.

2. Software – Share a trial or “lite” version of your software with your website visitors as a freebie. Don’t forget to include that ad for your most popular product line with links to your website and email. And tell recipients to share copies of the software with their own site visitors and other contacts. For help creating software, hire help from online bid sites like Elance.com.

3. Web Host – Offer to host small business web sites on your server at no charge. In exchange, place your own banner ad at the top of the site for viral marketing. You can setup a fold for their site and they can choose their own domain name and have it redirected to that folder.

4. Templates – Design your own website or other templates, include your own marketing information on them and give them away as free downloads or as an electronic package. Grant permission for recipients to pass them along.

5. Articles – Write articles about your industry. Include your website and contact information in the byline and grant permission for others to publish as long as they keep the byline intact. Then people can use your contact on websites, in ezines, newsletters and other places where once again, viral marketing will speed the spread of information about your business.

6. Discussion Board – Set up a Discussion Board on your website with your banner ad attached at the top. And invite others to link to it and use it for their own sites.
In summary, by using viral marketing strategies, you can reach out all over the Internet with much less effort. See which methods work best for you and repeat them as often as needed.
