Simple measures can increase the effectiveness of your direct marketing campaigns many times over. Most small businesses find direct marketing more effective – and cheap – compared to advertisements and listings. Leveraged properly, direct marketing can be a powerful tool in the small business owner’s hands.

#1 Know your options

While larger organizations have moved on from conventional direct marketing to benefit from better customer management, smaller organizations still swear by the cost effectiveness of traditional direct marketing measures. Your options may include measures like email, newsletters, direct mail, web promotion, contributions to journals and newspapers, telephone marketing, paper mailing, gifts, social networking online, putting up stalls at events, or even cross-platform promotions.

#2 Understand your goals

Marketing is zero productive if it is not goal oriented. Before you start promoting your business, you need to understand what your targets are. If you want to grow the customer base, you have to think about the number of new customers you are planning to add. If you are planning to promote new services or products, you have to create the right buzz around it. To increase customer loyalty and be seen as an authority in your business sector, scholarly or semi-scholarly articles in print and web are a good option.

#3 Don’t stick to just one campaign tool

The many ways of direct marketing are listed in #1. For best results, use a combination of these tools. For example, send emails to customers and then call them to reinforce your campaign message. You can use innovative web contests to draw in customers and then use gifts for increasing the conversion rate.

#4 Tantalise and tease

People want what is just out of their reach. Sometimes, calling a potential customer gets a lukewarm response like “I need to think it over first.” If you give them all the time in the world, then you will have to wait a long time before you can get a conversion. Instead, use the “limited period” or “offer valid till stocks last” idea.

#5 Outsource if you cannot handle it

Let’s face it – no matter how good your ideas and products, you may not have the knowledge of marketing and customer tele-calling that can translate into solid customer growth. Today, companies offering outsourcing services embrace all aspects of direct and in-direct marketing. Outsource your marketing campaigns to them. It won’t cost you much and the returns will be high. And you can simply concentrate on your core expertise rather than feel upset about not being able to bring in more customers.

There are numerous social bookmarking websites online, you just have to select the proper sites to associate with and attract Internet traffic and website traffic. Actively participating in many social bookmarking sites would allow you to post the links to your site once you are a member. This means additional traffic.

Here are four of the most popular social bookmarking websites:

1. Twitter

Twitter ranks 1 among social bookmarking websites and 13th in Alexa ranking. It has almost 24,000,000 visitors every month. It is associated with micro-blogging because you can post a maximum of 140 words about anything under the sun. Enterprising website owners drive traffic to their websites by posting links to specific posts in their websites. Users attest to the fact that twitter definitely increased their website traffic, especially if they have numerous followers. Even advertisers recognized the potential of twitter if used effectively. Hence, members acquire as many followers as they can. If they have more than a thousand followers and half of them will RT (ReTweet) and follow the links, then that is already 500 readers. Joining is also easy and free.

2. Digg

Digg ranks 2 among social bookmarking sites. It has almost 34,000,000 monthly visitors. This works much like Yahoo Buzz and Tweet Meme. You “Digg” the articles you enjoyed by clicking on the button. The website owner through the HTML codes of his template installs the Digg button and the button then appears in every post. Readers who find the post interesting would Digg it by clicking on the Digg button. The more readers who dig the post the more traffic it would generate.

3. Yahoo Buzz

Yahoo buzz ranks 2 among social bookmarking sites and has 28,000,000 visitors every month. It is another service offered by Yahoo. Members have the opportunity to post links to specific articles in their sites. This can drive Internet traffic to their websites. They could also buzz posted topics by other members; the top buzzed topics stay at the top of the list. You can join for free and you could switch easily from your Yahoo mail to Yahoo Buzz.

4. Tweet Meme

Tweet Meme ranks 3 among social bookmarking websites. Tweet meme makes tweeting easier by website owners and bloggers. This is very useful for site owners because they could easily copy the HTML code of the Tweet meme button and encode it in their websites. This button then appears after each post and readers could conveniently tweet the post to millions of users at Twitter who can ReTweet (RT) this to their followers as well. It is a superb, viral way of obtaining website traffic just by a click of a button. If you are a twitter user, then it is convenient to join and use a Tweet Meme to obtain Internet traffic.

There are still various social bookmarking sites that could increase your website traffic. The secret is persistence and dedication. Sign up and explore all the available services in these websites and keep at it. Internet traffic is viral if you know how to maximize the use of each website.

RSS (Rich Site Summary or Really Simple Syndication) is a format used for delivering web content that changes regularly. Major news sites, news-oriented community sites, personal weblogs, and other online publishers may offer content as an RSS feed. RSS is not just for news; it works for any information that can be broken down into separate items. Once information is in RSS format, an RSS program called a news aggregator checks for changes and delivers the changes to you.

Benefits of RSS

If you visit several sites routinely, RSS allows you to read the latest content from your favored sites (if they syndicate content) without visiting each site individually. You can keep up with news that’s important to you without browsing or searching for information. News aggregator or feed reader software checks the RSS feeds on your sites regularly and shows you the new items from all the sites in one central location.

If you are a webmaster, RSS helps you increase traffic to your site and gather and distribute news. Publishers benefit from web feeds because they syndicate content automatically.

RSS Feed

An RSS document –called RSS feed, web feed, channel, or feed-includes the full text, headlines, or a summary of each article. RSS is written in the Internet coding language referred to as XML (eXtensible Markup Language). RSS buttons are commonly labeled with the letters XML in an orange box.

RSS Readers

You need an RSS reader in order to take advantage of RSS. Some browsers, including the latest versions of Safari and Firefox, have RSS readers built in. If your browser doesn’t have a built in RSS reader, you can download one of the dozens available on the web. Some are free while others must be purchased.

After you choose an RSS reader, follow the directions for your reader. While different readers vary somewhat in how to set them up, you will follow these basic steps:

1. Click on the link or orange XML button near the feed you want.

2. Copy the URL (web address) from your web browser’s address bar.

3. Paste the URL into the “Add New Channel” section of the reader. The RSS feed will start to display and regularly update the headlines for you.

If you are someone who likes to keep up with the latest news, RSS is a huge timesaver. It not only saves you time by saving you from going to each site, it also protects your privacy because you don’t have to join each site in order to get the news you want. For the novice it may seem complicated, but once you get the hang of it, you will definitely appreciate RSS.

You may have heard the terms “RSS Feed”, “Pinging” and “Social Bookmarking”, and wondered exactly what it means and how this can help you with your marketing efforts. The answer is that it is very helpful if you explore what they can do for you.

I want to share with you and explain these 3 terms and how you can use them for your getting more traffic and leads.

Social Bookmarking: (sites like Digg, Delicious, Stubmle Upon, Mr. Wong…)

Social bookmarking is when you bookmark your favorite sites with link, headline and keywords. You will let search engines know that you created a new content. The reason we want to do this is easy, authoritative on-way links to your site. Let me explain this further.

Google and other search engines use the number of incoming links to your sites as a barometer of the popularity of your site or blog. They are in essence, “Votes” for your site, and get enough of these, and you will find your rankings starting to improve. The reason they are “authoritative” is that many time they have a great deal of page rank and trust rank, and Google views them as more valuable links. A good example of this would be links from Wikipedia. One way links simply means that they are linking to you, and you are not linking back to them.

You can bookmark every article that you made or every video that you created, but when it comes to bookmarking your blog posts be aware that you should bookmark around 50% of your content otherwise you will be acting spammy and you will be banned from some sites.

Pinging:

Pinging is electrical signal or notification to search engines that your content is available. You will get additional rank for your website. Pinging is very simple and it will take you only a few minutes to ping your new content.

You can also do additional pinging when you ping also your blog home page twice a month. Just be sure that you have some new content on your website.

RSS Feeds:

RSS Feed is digital reading of your site.

There are two main RSS categories.

· RSS feeds where people can subscribe to your RSS
· RSS Feed submissions

You want to get as many subscribes as possible, because every time you create a new content, they will get notification about it. This way you can get hundreds of visitors every single day. Many blogs have this option automatically, you can check if you can see a little RSS Feed button on your blog.

The second use of RSS is when you submit your RSS Feed to RSS directories. The best thing about it that you need to do this only for the first time and your blog is there almost forever. It will automatically post there your new content from your blog. Google and other search engines goes there several times a day, Google loves them and it is one of the easiest way for Google to find your content.

You can also create Super Feed and submit this Super Feed to RSS directories. Super feed is when you create RSS on your own with your best content.

Using pinging, social bookmarking and RSS feeds is a terrific way to not only get your page indexed fast, but get more traffic and exposure for your content and keep your content in front of your readers, which goes a long way toward helping you build authority and stand out from the crowd as a leader.

Forget about old school marketing strategies. Visit http://JiriMajkus.com , download my Free Lead Generation and Traffic Report and discover the Cutting Edge Marketing Strategies which will bring you hundreds of new leads for your business.

What does RSS mean?

RSS may mean three different things. The original RSS (RDF Site Summary RSS 0.9) was developed by Dan Libby for Netscape. After a couple of months, they produced a simpler and easier-to-use version called Rich Site Summary or RSS 0.91. But they later lost interest, leaving it without an owner. As more and more users were using RSS, Winer made an adapted version of RSS 0.91 for Userland, claiming it as his own. Later in 2005, Microsoft developed Really Simple Syndication in relation to its Simple Sharing Extensions.

What is RSS?

RSS is a XML file format for syndicating content and news in the web. It is usually used by websites that constantly need to update their content regularly such as news websites (CNN, BBC and Reuters) and weblogs. Since it essentially gives one’s webpage more traffic, it is now more widely used in marketing, web publications and virus reports. Today, large and small websites alike are usually RSS-enabled.

For example, you’re an avid fan of baseball and you want to share something recent about one of the players. Other than content, you can also attach multimedia files, like videos or pictures. By using RSS feeds, other Internet users subscribed to RSS-enabled sites can read your “headline” for free. They can also track for changes and updates using news aggregators, which will be discussed later on.

How does RSS work?

To be able to use RSS, you first have to download a software (content management system), by which XML format can be read. The title and, excerpt of the article, and a link to the full article are shown. Other than just text, you can also insert multimedia files in RSS feeds like pictures, videos, mp3s and others. Broadcatching, picturecasting, photocasting, and podcasting are some features you can incorporate into your feed, but will not be discussed in this article.

For users to access a RSS feed, they need to use an aggregator or a feed reader. An aggregator searches for updates on RSS-enabled webpages then displays it. It can either be a standalone program or a web browser extension, depending on your operating system. Search engines for web content broadcasted over RSS feed are also available such as Plazoo and Feedster.

How can I make an RSS feed?

It is definitely easier to make an RSS feed if you know HTML. If not, you could sign up for a blog (there are hundreds out there), some of which automatically creates RSS. If you’re using a personal webpage building system, you need to understand more about RSS. Making an RSS feed from scratch is relatively easy.

A RSS feed should always contain an “item”, whichever version of RSS you might use. If you wrote about a recent event in your city or a book review, the contents of this article can form an item. An item is essentially composed of three things: a title, its description, and link (where they can find your webpage). In choosing a title and description, use something that will describe the web content best. Although it will be easier for you, it doesn’t follow that the title tag of your webpage and the item title are the same.

An item will look like HTML tags. First, you need to put an opening channel tag that defines it as an XML file. Then, label the tag as an item by putting
after the channel tag. After this, you can now insert the three essentials of your item:
,
, and
. Just like HTML, we need to close the tag by writing
and
at the bottom.

An RSS feed that contains multiple tags looks like this:

Anne Rice’s Belinda: A Book Review

If you haven’t read any Anne Rice books yet, you will be greeted with shocking romantic relationships forming between unlikely characters…

Harry Potter IV: Darker with More Deaths

The recently released Harry Potter installation has proved dark for its younger readers…

Now, if you’re still having a hard time understanding these tags, look for HTML tags tutorial to further grasp the concept. Have fun!

If you already familiar with the Internet and usually reading at a particular blog, then you may know what the meaning of RSS is. If you are like me in a few years ago who did not know what RSS all about and what we could do with RSS, I will try to answer your questions and explain a bit more about how RSS can be used and provide benefits to us.

Definition of RSS is “Really Simple Syndication or Rich Site Summary”. A couple years ago, I started to study on Wikipedia site to find the meaning of RSS. I found the information in the articles of the website is very informative, but I do not want to spend a time to read a long document merely want to know the term of RSS only. Perhaps you also like me. What we want is the definition, simple tools and some examples of RSS that may be relevant to our lives.

So, let me tell you what the RSS all about and how we can use this tool to make our live become easier. I began to recognize the definition of RSS since 2008. I discovered how to use and know the advantages of RSS when using the Firefox browser, which is an alternative browser to Internet Explorer. Many IT experts have recommended using Firefox because it is more stable and has more security features. You should try it for yourself. You can search it on Google and download it for free.

One of the reasons I use Firefox as my primary web browser is for make RSS became more easily. When you visit any websites or blogs that using RSS function, a tiny RSS symbol will appears on the navigation bar in Firefox browser. When you see the symbol, you can click on the symbol and it will show ‘Pop up Window’ that allow you to bookmark the site. This is an indicator that links to the XML file to that site. So, if you are interested the content of website while you read and would like to keep it for further reference, you only need to click to the symbol RSS for bookmarks the website. And if one day you want to read it again, you can open the bookmark any time.

Another interesting part about Firefox is you can read RSS files without requiring additional another software. Data of small size of the link blogs or websites that you bookmark through RSS will be stored in your computer.

You also can use ‘Google Reader’ service by Google the same function as RSS. I also use this online reader (Google Reader) because you can access your bookmark anyway via your email account. Not necessarily on your computer. RSS are stored in your Google mail account, so can access your bookmark from any computer with just login on your Google mail account.

If you do not like using Firefox, but you still want to subscribe RSS at blog you like, you can subscribe the blog via email notification. Usually, all blogs have a form that allows you to fill in your email to subscribe for latest articles on the blog. So, if there are any recent articles, you will be notified by the RSS system by email.

I hope you can understand completely how RSS system works or at least know the definition of RSS. RSS help me a lot to get the latest information as I need quickly and as a blog owner, it helps me a lot to gather a group of readers who follow at my blog. As a first step, you can visit my blog to try the RSS system that I use.
