Lawyer Search Engine Marketing – Why Do I Need it?
What is SEM?
Search engine marketing (SEM), is a form of Internet marketing with the goal of promoting websites by increasing their visibility in search engine result pages.
SEO, short for search engine optimization, is the continuing process of improving both the internal and external components of a website to increase visitors.
As you probably already know, the SEO consultant industry has grown immensely. This is primarily the result of businesses recognizing the benefits of traffic and the low barrier of entry to get started as an SEO. Some SEO consultants have a highly specialized focus while others take a much more broad and general approach.
The purpose of this article is to give a brief description of some basic concepts and strategies in SEO, particularly as they relate to law firms.
Why does my law firm need it?
The majority of web traffic is driven by three engines – Google, Yahoo, and Bing. No matter how you slice it, if your law firm’s website cannot be “indexed” or stored the engines’ databases, you are missing out on huge opportunities for new clients for your law firm. These are a primary method of navigation for almost all Internet users.
The words that users type into the search box (keywords or phrases) which contain terms and phrases relevant to your law firm have enormous value. Getting targeted visitors to your firm’s website can provide amazing publicity, revenue and exposure. Further, investing in law firm SEO, whether through time or dollars, can have an exceptional rate of return.
Why can’t they figure out my site without help?
The truth is, most of the time, they can. However, search engines are in a state of constant evolution to provide better results to their users. They constantly improve their technology to crawl the web more deeply and return more relevant results to their users. But, there is a limit to how search engines can operate.
While making the correct optimizations may bring you thousands of new visitors and clients, making mistakes (or doing nothing) can hide or bury your site deep in the search results where nobody is looking.
But even more important than making your law firm’s site available to search engines, SEO can also help increase your site’s rankings. This means that your site’s content is placed and displayed where searchers will more readily see it.
The online legal environment is one of the most competitive on the internet. Those who perform SEO have a considerable advantage in visitors and new clients.
