VRE — better known as “Virtual Real Estate” is literally everywhere online.

That’s right. Everytime you do a search on whatever it is your searching for via the Internet you get a list of results. Within that list of results lye’s thousands, if not, millions of pages of Virtual Real Estate that is making someone out there on the WWW some handsome profits.

The question is… “what have you done in order to stake your Internet “VRE” claim so you too can enjoy some of that profit as well?”

The first VRE business model I’d like to talk about are — Article Directories.

VRE Model #1. Articles Directories.

Article Directories are in my mind are probably one of the best VRE business models on the web simply because they offer your audience and publishers Multiple Channels of information on any topic.

And the facts are, people come online for information.

So, what do Article Directories contain?

That’s right… Information! … and lots of it.

The other great benefit to Article Directories is that you don’t have to write a single word if you don’t want to because the whole purpose of starting your Article Directory in the first place is to get other people(we also call them authors) to submit their content for your readers and/or publishers to read and use.

Now, the Rule Of Thumb is simple when it comes to growing your Article Directory and that is… the more authors you recruit, the more your Article Directory will grow, filling it full of targeted information for your readers to digest and for publishers to use on their websites.

It gets better, so keep reading.

Did you know that the more pages you have within your Article Directory means… the more search engine food you’ll have for the search engines to come and index into their database which will then be displayed within the search engines search results.

Remember in the beginning of this article when I was talking about the search engine results being full of Virtual Real Estate. This is where your Article Directories webpages(or your Virtual Real Estate) will be listed for web surfers find.

This also means that you’ll receive a lot of FREE targeted search engine traffic to your Article Directory as it grows giving your authors FREE targeted traffic to their sites and keeping them happy, and at the same time, will be building your VRE nest egg on the WWW.

There’s two more things I want to talk to you about before this part of the article series ends.

The first is RSS — better known as “Real Simple Syndication” and what RSS does is it allows you to syndicate your Article Directories content or just content in general through an RSS feed so that any reader and/or publisher who subscribes to a particular RSS feed within your Article Directory will receive ANY new updated content that is published… INSTANTLY!

The other benefit to a RSS feed is… lets say you have 1000 publishers subscribed to one of your RSS feeds and one of your authors submits a new article at your Article Directory, all those publishers who subscribed to that RSS feed will receive it once that RSS feed updates and when someone clicks on the link within that RSS feed to read the new article, guess where the visitor is sent to?

You guessed it, your Article Directory, with your Google Adsense ads(I’ll talk about that in a second) and whatever other related affiliate links you have on that webpage.

Now… for the BEST part, how-to make a $Profit$ with your Article directory.

I’m telling you, this is the easiest money you’ll ever make for simply supplying your viewers and the Internet(A.K.A. The Information Super Highway) with what it needs the most, Information!

Google Adsense is Googles affiliate program for publishers and how it works is it displays ads targeted towards the content on that particular webpage being viewed.

How do you get paid? Simple. Your reader just has to click on one of the ads within the Google Adsense ad box on that webpage and depending on what the topic is and keyword could pay some handsome commissions(usually between 35% to 50%).

And, guess what? You didn’t even have to do any selling OR follow-up.

You can either engage the expertise of a Search Engine Optimisation company, or if you have the time, there are some changes you can make to your website yourself.

Step 1: Keyword Research

What keywords do you think your customers would type in to search for your products or services? A keyword can be one word (e.g. “optimisation”), but multiple keywords or keyword phrases are usually preferred, because they are more specific and more likely to be what your customers are looking for (eg. “ Search Engine Optimisation Australia”).

Write down as many as you can think of. Brainstorm with your team. Think of alternative words. Consider geographical phrases if they are important to your customer (e.g. “house cleaning Hornsby”). Also, get some ideas from your competitors’ websites. Try to make a list of 20-30 keyword phrases.

Choose the two keyword phrases you think would be searched for the most. But also remember, the more competition there is for a keyword, the harder it is to achieve top rankings. If you want to rank high in Google for the keyword “insurance”, you have a very long journey ahead. So try your best to select two keyword phrases that are the most relevant to you business but that are not vague nor competitive. It’s a good idea to have 2 or 3 words in each phrase (e.g. “wedding catering services”)

Once you’ve selected your two best keyword phrases the next step shows you how to make some improvements to your home page.

Step 2: Web Copy

Web copy refers to all the words or text on your website. Because content is king in the world of search engines, your keyword phrases need to be placed strategically on your webpage to convince Google that your content is highly relevant to those keywords. The more prominent they are, the better. (Keep in mind that as important as search engines are, customers come first, so make sure your copy also reads well.)

Here’s how you can increase each keyword’s prominence:

• Place your keywords in headings, preferably at the beginning of the heading;

• Include keywords towards the top of the page;

• Bold or italicise keywords where appropriate;

• Instead of having a link to another page that says “Click here to read more “, reword it to include your keywords, e.g. “Read more about our seo copywriting Services“.

An important tip is to also include these keywords in your HTML “title tag”. Use your content management system to make these changes yourself, or perhaps ask your web developer to do it if you’re unsure how.

Once you have fine-tuned your home page, consider adding new content, such as detailed descriptions of what you offer, FAQs and informative articles about your products and services. (If you don’t want to write these yourself, they can be located for free on the internet – do a search for “articles directory”).

It’s also good to bear in mind that search engines can only read text, not pictures. Often web developers embed words in images to look better for website visitors or use Flash for animation, but this is a major impediment to search engines.

Step 3: Linking

Each link from another website to your website (not from your website) is considered by search engines as a vote of popularity for your business and will improve your rankings.

But it is the quality, not quantity, of the links that is crucial. The other websites should be relevant to your industry, and preferably highly regarded themselves. Ten quality links count far more than 500 links from arbitrary websites. In the same way your personal business network can have a significant impact on the success of your business, so too the online network you build on the internet.

Brainstorm all the relevant websites that could link to you, such as non-competing companies, and industry bodies and organisations. Write a friendly email to each describing the benefit their visitors would get in knowing about your business, and request them to create a link to your website. Most people will not respond first time round, so a follow-up phone call is usually required.

How do I monitor my results?

Monitor your rankings in Google over the next few months by typing your chosen keywords into the search box, and recording your ranking. Also look at your hosting reports to understand what search terms your visitors are using to find your website.

The above process can be also be repeated for each page of your website. Remember to keep updating your content, and continually increase the number of links to your website.

As you see your rankings climb you should see a corresponding increase in web traffic and a substantial increase in sales enquiries. Be sure to record the source of your customer enquiries, so you can measure the success of your marketing efforts.

This is a continuation from my first article on RSS – “RSS Mania Addiction – An Introduction to RSS and the Terminology”

Well so now you kind of like, are in love, or are obsessed with RSS. Those little orange buttons are all over and you want to put one up in your web site or Blog or on your wall. That is cool, and it will demand a bit of technical knowledge, some writing, some research and some frustration. So here are the major steps to publishing your RSS feed and giving all that information to the world at large, which I will discuss in depth with examples in this series of articles. Right now we will outline these steps.
1. Sit back, STOP! & Think. (How is that for step one?)
* a. Do you have information that should or would go into an RSS file? Remember that the unwritten rules of RSS is that you must update the file with “new” and more “current” information if not hourly or daily, but at least on a fairly common basis. No one is going to want to keep your RSS in their reader if the information they see every day for the next month is exactly the same as the day before it.
* b. Additionally, though some people do this, it really is NOT good practice to put long essays into an RSS feed. What you want is the first line or description of an object, idea or news. Hook the person so he clicks on the topic in his reader, reads the summary, clicks again and finds himself on your web page.
* c. Do you have the time to do it? There are millions of Blogs out there that were started with the best of intentions. One entry, two entries, three entries. And then they die. Why? Because the author/owners simply had no clue about the dedication demanded and time needed to update their Blogs on a regular basis. They also had no idea just how difficult he competition was to get people to read those Blogs. The same is true with RSS. You start a feed to get readers, or to pass on information to the web. You need to understand this is going to take time and patience and work. This is not a one-time one-shot one-pie-in-the-sky deal.
2. Your depth of Technical knowledge
You will need to become familiar with the following terms and understand them and perhaps learn some very simple things in how to program them.
1. RSS
2. XML
3. HTML
4. CSS
5. Atom
6. RSS Readers
7. RSS Parsers
8. RSS Validation
3. Now begins the Actual WORK!
* a. Preparing the file – You will need a template RSS file (for the sake of these articles it will be called rss.xml though it can have any name you choose as long as it is in xml format.) Unless you are good enough to write one yourself this is critical.    * b. Understanding the Template and what information goes where    * c. Putting the information into the template – Each piece of information you have will go into specific [headers] and you must understand the RSS structure in the XML file to get that right.    * d. Validating the Template – A crucial aspect. Unlike HTML, RSS is very, very, let me say this again, very unforgiving. It does not like deviations from the norm or from the basic format laid down. Getting it right can be the most trying and frustrating part of the process.
4. Okay now you wrote the RSS file, your XML file is ready and validated. Now what? Guess you think you are done. Think again.
* a. You will have to place the rss.xml file on your web site or somewhere on the web where people can get to it.    * b. Now you can steal, get, copy, make – whatever you choose – your own little XML/RSS or RSS – Valid button.    * c. Hyperlink your file to the RSS    * d. Submit your file under the correct category to RSS directories.
5. How many people will pick up your RSS? I will discuss this as well in a later article, but surprisingly, the answer here is still very vague. There are some ways of tracing the numbers, but none are foolproof, and most are very convoluted.
6. Go and get a good night’s sleep cause tomorrow you are going to have to start the process of adding information to your RSS (or changing it) all over again!

When one speaks of Flash game design or Flash graphic design, what invariably flashes across anyone’s mind is animation. Flash scripting is inadvertently directed to development of animation, involving morphing or stimulating motion using certain graphics.

Tweening is a concept of Flash that facilitates animation upon you specify the key frames for a given animation task for a fixed period of time. The process involves you to decide and specify the first frame and the last frame of position or shape of the animation subject to leave the rest to Flash. Flash then “tweens” the frames in between to generate a smooth animation of change in position or shape of the subject within a fixed period of time, hence stimulating motion or morphing of the subject in question.

Besides, automatic generation of smooth animation, the other advantages of tweening is minimum file size of such an animation file. Tweening, thus, is instrumental to easy and quick flash game design and flash graphic design. The concept minimizes manual flash scripting and saves valuable time and energy during Flash web development.

There are two types of Tweening predominantly, as hinted already:

Motion Tweening: When the ultimate effect of tweened animation is to stimulate motion within a fixed time frame, it is called motion tweening. The motion tweening can be change in position or size or rotation etc. of the subject(s) to be animated, which can be a text block or a symbol or a drawing or otherwise, within a fixed time period.

Shape Tweening: Tweening targeted to change the shape of the subject within a given timeline is called Shape Tweening. Under the purview, you select the initial drawing or shape at the start of the timeline and another shape at another point later in the timeline to let Adobe Flash generate the frame values in between to stimulate morphing animation effect.

The Motion Tweening is the more popular of the two types and fairly easier to implement than Shape Tweening. Flash also allows tweening of colour shades, including fading effects.

This post is part two of: Pay Per Click – (PPC) Budget – “How Much Should I spend”

Once you have done thorough key word research and developed a good overview of the key words for the PPC campaign. It is at this point that you obtain your “average cost per click”. A figure that allows you to grasp the cost and expense to your business per month. This 3 step process is covered in Pay Per Click – “How Much Should I spend” .

Before setting your campaign live you should double check your key words. Ad spend can be wasted in two main areas, the first being key words that are too general. These are keywords that are usually one word without a defining tail. For example if I were a shoe company running a campaign with the keyword “shoe” I would in most cases experience budget seepage. Money would be wasted on people searching for information on shoes but may not necessarily actually wanting to buy. This is fine if I’m running a campaign with a large budget and wish to saturate the market with a branded PPC campaign, but this is not a priority for most small to medium businesses. The second main area to look out for before setting a campaign live is key words that are phrase or broad matched that will attract customers you do not want or simply cannot accommodate. For example if one of your phrased key words is “Cheap Shoes” and a potential customer searches “Sport Shoes Cheap” then your add will appear and may be clicked on. You may sell shoes, but you may not necessarily sell sports shoes.  This is where negative key words come into play within a pay per click campaign. I will do a post on this at a later date.

Once you are happy with your key words and have completed your campaign set up, it is at this point that you can start factoring in ROI (Return on  Investment). Please note, that you should give a campaign at least 3 months before you start making decisions based on ROI. As the first 3 months is generally viewed as data collection and a expectation of high ROI within these first months is not recommended.

Once the campaign has been running for a minimum of 3 months your real time average cost per click is obtained, you can work out how many clicks it takes you to get a sale on average and use this figure to assist with structuring your budget. It is important to constantly monitor your bids and cost per click so that you are getting the most out of your allocated budget.

Quality linking practices are encouraged by the major search engines as an acceptable way of improving site popularity, website traffic and help contribute to higher search engine rankings. As a webmaster you must be wary of engaging in poor linking practices that have the potential to strip your website of its ranking status on the major search engines Google, Yahoo and MSN.

In this two part Article Series we will firstly discuss those linking practices that will find your website penalized by the major search engines, with the most current controversy over ‘paid links’. Google has recently penalized several sites with ranking drops for violating its quality webmaster guidelines by selling paid links. This penalty can also be applied to those sites displaying ‘paid links’ that are considered spam or of low quality by the search engines and provide users with a poor browsing experience.

Not all paid linking will be penalized, the current focus tends to be on those links that are primarily being used to manipulate search engine rankings. Purchasing paid links may also affect your rankings if the originating site selling the links is considered to be a ‘bad neighborhood’ site by the major search engines, your site’s rankings can be affected by association. As a general rule, avoid companies selling links who are promoting paid links that are ‘hard to detect by a search engine’ and with the recent increase in the reporting of paid links to Google, their ranking algorithms are being adjusted to detect such paid links.

The advice from Google on paid links is that it’s okay to promote paid links that are aimed at increasing website traffic but are not being used to manipulate search engine rankings. If you are using paid links:-

• Add a ‘no follow attribute’ to the linking info (see Google for more info on how to do this).

• You can also redirect the links to an intermediate page that is blocked from the search engines with robots.txt file.

• Clearly define paid advertising links on your site to the search engines ie. with a ‘sponsored link’ title heading.

Another linking practice that is discouraged by the major search engines is using Link Farms to artificially increase a site’s link popularity. Link farms are usually classified as a website or web page that displays a series of links to other unrelated sites and displays no content of real value or interest to site visitors. These types of links pages are usually created by automated software programs and services. To avoid being caught linking to a ‘link farm’ vigorously check all link exchange requests and the reciprocal URL location of your link on their site. Link farms will be obvious in nature as no actual web content will be present for site visitors except links and often the link exchange will be represented as a ‘3 way link’ exchange.

‘3 Way Linking’ has been an emerging trend over the past 12 months and is designed to quickly boost the search engine rankings and online presence of the requesting link partners site by anonymously building link pages that have no direct link to them so that they can’t be penalized by the search engines for deceptive SEO practices. 3 Way Links are of little or no benefit to your site or your linking campaign as typically the third party site that your link is located on has no content relevance to your own site or worse still it is just a ‘link farm’. Once again your site’s search engine rankings can be penalized by association.

Check link exchange requests carefully as often 3 way linking practices are hidden in the link request, in some cases you may agree to a link exchange with a site whose content is similar to yours only to find that when the link exchange is completed that your link has been placed on a third party site. Often the site requesting the link exchange does not even have a links page set up on their site. 3 Way Links can also be represented as ‘triangular link exchanges’.

The final linking practice we will look at is ‘Cross Linking’. Excessively cross-linking sites of unrelated content can and will violate the quality webmaster guidelines of Google, Yahoo and MSN. This linking practice is generally used to artificially increase the number of links to a site and link popularity with the main aim of manipulating the search engine rankings. Even if you are the owner of multiple sites it is unwise to cross link them if the content of the sites is unrelated.

I came across a prime example of cross-linking recently when analyzing a potential new client’s site for SEO & website marketing recommendations. What I discovered was that their existing SEO provider had excessively cross-linked their site to all their other clients sites under the disguise of ‘site map’ pages which were not only numerous in quantity but also keyword stuffed. This practice has somehow gotten past the ranking algorithms of Google and Yahoo most likely because the pages were being represented as ‘site map’ pages however the site had been penalized by MSN with no rankings showing whatsoever.

The only way of bringing up the site on MSN was to type in the site’s direct URL address. The site owner was completely unaware of this breach which was explained away by this SEO company as the search engine results for MSN being inconclusive on the day they were searched for reporting purposes. To a novice, this explanation probably seems viable – so website owners be wary and don’t be afraid to ask questions as to why your site is not receiving rankings in at least the top 10 pages of the search engine results for Google, Yahoo & MSN especially if you are paying for professional SEO services. Avoid automated software being added to your site primarily for SEO purposes, organic search engine results are certainly achievable without the application of automated software which usually displays web pages of lower quality than your main web pages and certainly be wary of site maps being developed for your site in the format I have described above. These are generally placed in the footer of your home page with the words site map preceding them, followed by an A – Z listing of site map web pages. This doesn’t apply to software added to your site to record site statistics for performance analysis.

Pretty simple right? Yeah I can hear it now…”sounds to complicated, I don’t have a technical background!”  Your going to have to figure it out, and if you don’t, your never going to make any money as an entrepreneur. So Take Charge!! I will give you the general guidelines but actually implementing them is up to you.

Signing up for Google Adwords is really simple. Go to google.com/adwords, on the right hand side click on “start now”. It’s then going to ask you which addition you would like, pick “standard” and press continue. You will then pick an email and password, if you already have a gmail account pick the option to use that account. It’s good to have all your Google services within one account. Now go ahead and sign in.

It will then ask you “how would you like to pay for this account?” Go ahead and select the currency that you use(USA would be US Dollars). It will then give you a notice that your account has been created. Now just go to your email and click on the confirmation link they sent you.

Now we have to prepare our adgroup and keywords. First thing you do is set-up your “Base Keywords” which will be what you name your Adgroups as well. So consider them your foundation. I use Google Docs to keep track of everything. Its a note and spreadsheet online service, it keeps all your records for you. You can then in-turn use any computer and have access to all your records…AWESOME!!

Use the spreadsheet feature, I would start with 5 Base Keywords and keep them very short, a good example would be “make money” or “home business”. Put them across the top of your document. Now you are going to get additional keywords that include your “base keywords” in them. Exp: “make money online fast” or “home business online opportunity”. Notice how they both have the base keywords in them? Add 5 additional keywords to you base keywords list.

Use the Google Keyword Tool or Free Wordtracker, these are the tools to help you find your long tailed keywords(Google These Tools If You Aren’t Familiar With Them). The longer the keyword the more serious the prospect. Someone looking for “home business” is less serious than someone searching for “online home based business opportunity”…Specificity Is Important!

Now lets add them to your Google Adwords Account…

You have different of ways to enter them: Broad Match, which is just the word itself. This means that when someone searches on Google you will show up for any of the words in your keyword. Its not ideal way to get high quality prospects. So for example if one of your keywords is home business, you will show up for any search that has business or home in it…Hence the name “broad match”…

The other type is phrase matched. This would be a keyword with quotes around it, “home business online” would be one. This mean that whenever someone searches for a keyword that has this exact phrase, your ad will come up. A few keywords your ad would appear with are: “best home business online” or “legitimate home business online opportunity”. Making sense?

The third type is Exact Match. This is when you put brackets around your keywords, [online home business]. Then the only time your ad will show is when people type in this exact keyword. No additional words and in just that order.

Now putting the quotes and brackets into all of your keywords can be time consuming.
